Statement on Today's Announcement By The Federal Highway Administration To Stop Payments to Texas And Other States From the Federal Highway Trust
9/5/2008
The following statement can be attributed to Bill Noble, executive director of Texans for Safe Reliable Transportation:

“The announcement of unexpected federal highway fund cutbacks illustrates the transportation crisis in the United States and Texas and makes clear that our state must take lead in looking out for Texas transportation funding needs.

“Federal funds are drying up and state gas tax revenues are not keeping up with demand as 1,200 new residents arrive in Texas each day. Texas leaders, taxpayers and motorists must embrace and keep the tools we have to fund transportation infrastructure in Texas including toll projects and public-private partnerships, in addition to being open to changes in the state gasoline tax.
